Latest Updates from Our Project:

Post-Campaign Update!
about 7 years ago – Sun, Mar 19, 2017 at 10:09:31 PM

Hello everyone! Since the end of the campaign everything remains on track and I have a couple of pieces of news I think you'll like.

The Surveys

Kickstarter has finished processing the backer funds and reported in; the expected loss from non-processable came in a less than $2,000 and everything looks rosy. Backerkit is now reviewing the survey, and is expected to approve it within 2 days.

I will be honest; the 2-day delay is my fault. Since this is my first time using both Kickstarter and Backerkit, I was unaware that I could get the survey pre-approved. However, you can expect the surveys to hit your mailboxes in the next couple of days.

The PDFs

Since I want to leave the survey open for awhile to give everyone time (and will also be adding a Backerkit pre-order store for those who completely missed the Kickstarter), the official publication of the PDF edition of Wearing the Cape: The Roleplaying Game will be delayed. HOWEVER, I will be setting up a download link to a "pre-release" PDF of WtC:RPG through Backerkit. This will allow all backers who chose to pledge for a PDF to receive their games very quickly (and also give backers a chance to weigh in with any errors they find in the pre-release documents!) I know many of you are impatiently waiting. I am too!

Progress on The Sourcebooks

I have been receiving character files from many of the Sentinels and Cape File backers, and my artists are engaged in turning their character concepts into fantastic images for the book. Behold The White Samurai.

I will follow the same process for the Barlow's Guide and B-Files sourcebooks; PDFs will be available for all backers who pledged for them to download through Backerkit before they are officially released on DrivethruRPG. As the structure of the sourcebooks gets worked out, I will post my progress here.

So have a good weekend, everyone. I hope to have the surveys in your mailboxes and the link to download the Wearing the Cape: The Roleplaying Game PDF in a couple of days!

And We're Most Triumphantly Done
about 7 years ago – Sat, Mar 04, 2017 at 10:19:33 PM

And that's it, people; a solid end to a great campaign! I set up this campaign for the sole purpose of raising funds to do a real print-run of the gamebook, rather than going the print-on-demand route that indie publishers normally must begin with; it's obviously gotten much bigger than that. I couldn't have even considered this option if it wasn't for the friendly backing of Imagined Interprises Incorporated. (The conversation went something like "Love your work! Sure we'll print a thousand copies, just bring us the money!")

So, thank you, Imagined Interprises; now you get to print two books. Make that three since the Special Edition is a go.

Meanwhile the Kickstarter has generated attention from more than just backers; I have been contacted by a very nice direct sales network that works with small game publishers to get their stuff into game stores around the world. (Not saying who, yet, but they work with Evil Hat).

So it looks like this may get bigger than planned for (I feel like Mickey Mouse contemplating the results of a simple little spell...).

But all that's for long-range goals; what happens now?

Well now I get the Backerkit Survey polished so that when the money hits with Kickstarter we'll be ready to go. I'm waiting on some cool pictures of the dice sets, but plan on having the Backerkit Survey out one week from tonight.

As the surveys are answered I will be able to send out the PDFs for everyone waiting for the electronic copy of the game! The good news there is that I have learned I can do it directly through Backerkit instead of needing to go through DrivethruRPG. I'm told Backerkit has a very smooth system, there.

One note: the PDF of Wearing the Cape: The Roleplaying Game has been extensively cross-linked between the Table of Contents, page references, and Index, and has also been extensively reviewed by several very sharp pairs of eyes. Nonetheless, this PDF is still the "pre-release" PDF; it won't be finalized until the end of the month when it is used to generate the print file for Imagined Interprises. This means that if you spot any typos or grammatical errors that have slipped by us (or just found a sentence or paragraph that doesn't make sense to you), let us know! You will be improving the final product.

When the "release" draft is complete, everyone will again be notified and able to download their copy. Meanwhile we will be working very hard to make sure that the June shipping goal is met!

Thank you, everyone, for your enthusiasm and good wishes, and just for making this happen.

Last Milestone Reached!
about 7 years ago – Fri, Mar 03, 2017 at 02:03:17 PM

Congratulations, everyone! To be honest, while I had no doubts about the campaign's ability to fund and to possibly hit 300-400%, I have been blown away by your response. When I went to bed last night, the campaign sat at just a few hundred shy of $50,000; I woke up to find that not only had all of you pushed us past the last milestone, you added over $1,000 over night!

So, wow. And here it is.

Despite hints from some of you, I am not going to add another official stretch goal. I need some cool stuff to save for the next Kickstarter, and besides I'm afraid that some of you would hunt me down if I did. So let's just enjoy today and tomorrow; I've decided I'm going to add something to the survey or to delivery to thank everyone, instead.

Speaking of the survey, I've scheduled for it to roll out next Friday; I'm still getting some nice pictures arranged for it and having all of the selections vetted. The survey will remain open for a good while, but I am arranging for everyone who pledged for a PDF copy of Wearing the Cape: The Roleplaying Game to receive it as soon as the campaign funds clear Kickstarter. In my campaign-ender update Sunday, I will have news and instructions for the Sentinels and Cape File backers as well!

Meanwhile, everyone have a great weekend!

The Big Shipping Update.
about 7 years ago – Tue, Feb 28, 2017 at 10:16:39 PM

Hello everyone! I promised that before the campaign ended I would post an update more fully explaining how all rewards would be shipped and how the Backerkit survey would allow backers to select desired Add-Ons. Well we’re running out of time, so here it is.

All pledge levels which include physical rewards (as opposed to electronic rewards) already include $15 for domestic US shipping or $25 for international shipping. The exception is the later-made The Big Box pledge, which has a $65 international shipping charge built in. Note also, that all international backers who chose a pledge level with shipping (again except for The Big Box pledge), will be charged an additional international shipping fee of $10 by Backerkit, bringing their shipping fee to $35.

The reason for this is that the shipping model I chose, and locked in when I set up the initial pledge levels, is built on using a USPS Flat Rate Box for domestic shipping, with an averaged by-weight shipping cost internationally (for most international destinations, $35 will cover the USPS shipping cost of Wearing the Cape: The Roleplaying Game and the 8 dice).

I apologize for thinking too small for my international backers. The Big Box pledge level was the first step towards fixing that. This list is the second step. It works like this:

1.)    Every backer, at every pledge level, has the option of “filling a box.”

If you backed the campaign at a No Reward, Cape-Watcher, or Cape File pledge level, you can “buy a box”, which will give you a USPS Flat Rate Box for either $15 (domestic), $45 (Canada), or $65 (everywhere else). If you are backed at the Guardian, City Protector, or Sentinel pledge level, you will have already paid $15 (domestic) or $35 (international) towards the cost of the box. If you backed at The Big Box level, you’re fully paid up.

2.)    You can fill the box to its limit.

The weight limit for the Medium Flat Rate Box is 20 lbs. (9.07 kilograms). Each book weighs less than 3 lbs., so the real limit is the box dimensions. Each box can hold up to 4 gamebooks/ sourcebooks and 8 dice sets. If you want to ship the Wearing the Cape Special Edition in the box, the hardback copy will fit in the box with 2 gamebooks/sourcebooks, while the paperback copy will fit with 3 gamebooks/sourcebooks.

3.)    The Wearing the Cape Special Edition (paperback or hardback) can be shipped separately ($5 domestic, $20 international). So if all you want is the book, no need for the Flat Rate Box.

4.)    International backers at the Guardian, City Protector, or Sentinel level will only need to add $10 (in Canada) or $30 (everywhere else) to get the Flat Rate Box that will allow them to add more gamebooks/sourcebooks and dice to their reward.

5.)    The Backerkit survey will allow you to simply select each Add-On you wish, or select “bundles.” The contents of each bundle vary with each pledge level in order to add to your basic pledge reward and give you a Box with Everything, a Box of Books, or a Big Box of Books.

Example:  You are a Guardian, and you want a Box with Everything. Your pledge-level reward is for Wearing the Cape: The Roleplaying Game (print + PDF). Your Box with Everything will add Wearing the Cape: Barlow’s Guide + The B-Files (print + PDF), The Archon Files (PDF), and all 4 sets of dice. If you are a City Protector, then you will already have the Astra/Opposition Dice Set in your pledge reward, so your selected Box with Everything will only add the 3 additional dice sets (and the bundle price will reflect the $15 difference).

The Box of Books will include (pledge level rewards + Add-Ons) 1 print copy of Wearing the Cape: The Roleplaying Game, 1 print copy of Wearing the Cape: Barlow’s Guide & B-Files, WtC:RPG (PDF), WtC: Barlow’s Guide (PDF), and WtC: The B-Files (PDF).

The Box with Everything will include (pledge level rewards + Add-Ons) 1 print copy of Wearing the Cape: The Roleplaying Game, 1 print copy of Wearing the Cape: Barlow’s Guide & B-Files, WtC:RPG (PDF), WtC: Barlow’s Guide (PDF), WtC: The B-Files (PDF), The Archon Files (PDF), and all 4 dice sets.

The Big Box of Books will include (pledge level rewards + Add-Ons) 2 print copies of Wearing the Cape: The Roleplaying Game, 2 print copies of Wearing the Cape: Barlow’s Guide & B-Files, WtC:RPG (PDF), WtC: Barlow’s Guide (PDF), and WtC: The B-Files (PDF).

(If you want to turn a Big Box of Books into a Big Box with Everything, you can simply add the dice sets and The Archon Files individually.)

So that’s it. At this point, we’re looking a June shipping date for everything since the gamebooks need to ship with the sourcebooks and novels (the PDFs/ebooks will “ship” sooner). I’m going to send out all the WtC:RPG PDFs as soon as the backer pledges are collected by Kickstarter, while keeping the Backerkit survey open as long as possible. This will allow you change the contents of your box, and even select and pay for additional Add-Ons, up until physical production commences.

As always, now is the time to add comments or questions! (Please!) Here are the lists (and don't worry; in the Backerkit survey you will only see the list for your pledge level and it will be a row of nice boxes).

Paperback Edition Unlocked!
about 7 years ago – Mon, Feb 27, 2017 at 09:07:03 PM

$45,000 Milestone Crossed!

This morning we slid past the $45,000 milestone, unlocking the Wearing the Cape Special Edition paperback! Taking measurements, the paperback edition will be able to go into a Flat Rate box with up to 3 of the gamebooks/sourcebooks. So, good news there (or bad news, if you were looking for reasons you just couldn't get it on top of everything else).

So, one more milestone to go. If you want to unlock the $50,000 milestone, spread it around! Let your friends know. Share on Facebook and your other social media. Lets smash records for Superhero RPGs on Kickstarter. Personally, I'd love to go to Evil Hat or Modiphius and say "$100,000 for a Fate Core Superhero RPG by an indie-author and a tiny imprint, how would you like to print a publisher's edition and run a line of supplements? How about translations?"

But that's just me. The frosting on the cupcake, for me, will be when I'm able to release the PDFs to everyone. In my opinion, the rulebook will blow you away and I'm looking forward to hearing the shock and awe. Because, owing to a lot of help from a lot of people, it's that awesome. Not long now.

Can you tell I'm excited?
